Evaluation from the Society in the fiscal year of 2013

Chinese tire production base Hangzhou Yokohama Tire Co., Ltd. was recognized as a Zhejiang Province Safety Culture Establishment Model Company

Hangzhou Yokohama Tire Co., Ltd. received a commendation from the Zhejiang Provincial Production Safety Committee in September and was recognized as a Zhejiang Province Safety Culture Establishment Model Company. Twenty six companies were commended throughout Zhejiang, and only three were selected from Hangzhou.
In addition, in recognition of emission reduction activities (the establishment of wastewater treatment facilities and deodorizing system for mixing and vulcanization equipment) and environmental conservation activities (such as the Yokohama Forever Forest Project), the local government recognized Hangzhou Development Zone as the first Environmental Education Base in October.
These activities were observed by the deputy mayor of Hangzhou in November. The deputy mayor instructed that the same activities be implemented in Hangzhou in recognition of these environmental contribution activities.

Catalog for car manufacturers commended by a German environmental protection organization for its contributions to reductions in CO2 emissions

The Group was commended as a company that contributes to reductions in CO2 emissions in April 2013 by the Climate Partner Organization, which is an organization affiliated with the TÜV (Technical Inspection Authority), a certifying body.
The Group’s activities involving the creation of the pamphlet for the Mercedes Benz were highly regarded. The following three items were implemented in the preparation of the OE pamphlet.

  1. Paper certified by the NPO FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) was used. The FSC is an NPO that works to preserve forests, and the Group uses paper that is certified by this NPO as paper produced while protecting the rights of local people and avoiding the reckless deforestation of tropical rain forests.
  2. The Group only ordered printing by printing companies that have production processes that give consideration to reducing environmental pollution and environmental destruction.
  3. A portion of printing fees are donated to the environmental protection projects of the Climate Partner Organization. These environmental protection projects are actively engaged in activities such as tree planting aimed at reducing CO2 emissions.

Yokohama Rubber (China) Co., Ltd. received Most Excellent Company Image Award for its efforts to preserve the ecosystem at Laojun Mountain

The subsidiary Yokohama Rubber (China) Co., Ltd. was awarded with the Most Excellent Company Image Award at an environmental event held in Beijing called 2013 Beautiful China. Beautiful China is an event held by 17 Chinese newspapers and web-based media outlets to encourage and recognize the environmental protection activities of individuals and companies as part of their efforts to fulfill their corporate social responsibility (CSR). The subsidiary has participated in a project to promote the sustainable development and environmental preservation of the village Heyuan near Laojun Mountain in Lijiang.

Received Environmental Award from Honda Motor

Yokohama Rubber received the Environmental Award from Honda Motor Co., Ltd., which Honda gives to its business partners as an award for excellence in environmental activities. The award was granted to President and Representative Director Hikomitsu Noji at the award ceremony. This award for excellence in environmental activities is granted every year by Honda Motor Co., Ltd. for the purpose of strengthening partnerships with business partners. During FY 2012, five companies received awards in recognition of their excellence in activities aimed at reducing environmental impact. Yokohama Rubber has rolled out various measures internally as low-carbon initiatives in the product life cycle that are aimed for by Honda Motor, and as a result Yokohama Rubber has been recognized as a supplier that has made significant contributions to initiatives aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Yokohama Rubber received an encouragement award from the Japan Environmental Management Association called the FY2013 Resource Recycling Technology and System Award for using recycled rubber

Duotex is a general purpose conveyor belt optimal for carrying various loose items such as crushed stone, cement, wood chips, and lime.
Yokohama Rubber newly developed highly-abrasion resistant rubber for the cover rubber in the Duotex series, a part which has a significant impact on the life of products. Reduced weight and composition with recycled materials is also achieved, making it an environmentally-friendly product that achieves a balance between having a long life and allowing for recycling.
The usage of recycled rubber has been increased by approximately 20 tons per month, and the results of the Group’s contributions to resource recycling have been recognized through the receipt of an encouragement award from the Japan Environmental Management Association called the FY2013 Resource Recycling Technology and System Award in October 2013.
